I have just started paying monthly payments to an Orthodontist this year. NJ allows Medical Expenses to be deducted from taxes. Are payments considered Medical Expenses?

on fed return they are, if you are itemizing it had to be 7.5% of whatever you made say you made $100.00 well 7.5% of that is 7.50 so anything over that amt. you could claim if you paid 8.00 to dentist you could claim .50 and keep adding things up to the standard deduct. if not take the stand. deduct. The state form should be the same. Depending on how much money you made? you might go to your local State Dept. building and have them to your taxes for free, in West Virg. and Ohio they do it for free, also the library does, senior centers, fraternal orders, volunters, fed build. (irs) does fed taxes for free. But yes they are Med. Expenses.
