What are the disadvantages of non-extraction orthodontics? What are some post-braces side effects?

By non-extraction, I mean the non-extraction of teeth. Sometimes (oftentimes), orthodontists ask the patient to have two to four teeth removed to make space for the crown. What if the patient refuses extraction but nonetheless gets braces anyway?
